CHAPTER 10
Cruising through the south down 52nd Street in attempt to find Game and Derrick was like riding around in Iraq looking for Bin Laden. You know he’s there, but he’s nowhere to be found. It got even worse when everybody acted as if they didn’t know the man. Some gave Lamar the run-around, which resulted in him riding around in circles. Both Game and Derrick’s phones sent him to voicemail. The rumor was beginning to seem true.
Lamar went by all 3 projects they ran, including the house on Black Button he only knew about. They were nowhere to be found. With no hint where to look next, Lamar was finna say fuck it, until he spotted David and the Circle Boys he went to school with posted outside on the porch of this two story, fenced in abandon house blowing smoke clouds into the air, drinking 40oz. Niggas was looking shell as they squinted they eyes tryna make out who was behind the wheel. Jaylan instantly clutched the desert in case somebody tried to act up.
“Ayo David!” Lamar yelled out. “Let me holla at you right quick.”
David did a double take and realized who was behind the wheel, but he didn’t know who sat passenger side. All he knew was his competition’s plug was sitting right here in their trap like shit was sweet in the circle.
“What’s poppin’?” David said as he approached the luxury truck.
“The money team, you know it’s all about the money, like I told you before I got a spot for you and ya boys,” Lamar said smoothly.
He had been trying to get David to rock with him since high school. He could only imagine the things they could accomplish together but what Lamar failed to realize was hustling wasn’t David forte; he did it just to get by.
“A spot?” David chuckled, “Brah, you trying me like I’m some lil’ nigga?”
The sneaky expression that was on David’s face gave Lamar a warning to keep his eyes on him. The circle had a reputation for robbing local hustlers for all they had and David was the one guiding the group. The circle was the grimiest hood of them all. This nigga always on that shit, Lamar thought as he seen that David was under the influence of marijuana.
“Nah fam, it ain’t even like that. You know you cool peoples, I was just making sure y’all were straight,” Lamar stated trying to bring David to an understanding.
“More so…so what bring you down here on my side of town?” David said scanning the block for any traffic.
“I was trying to catchup with those niggas Game and Derrick to have a word with them. Them niggas been dodging me all day,” he said peering at the baby fortune that took up half his arm. “If you see them niggas could you tell ‘em I said links me?”
There was a brief pause before David said something. “Game ‘nem should be pulling up any minute.”
“Word to what?”
“On my mother!” David lied.
